Summary of Position:

Manage IMA’s AFYA/Nairobi network and install hardware and software. Purchase equipment and peripherals for all offices and provide overall customer support. Develop policies and procedures regarding information technology and ensure the integrity and security of IMA’s systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Network Administration:

  • Install and maintain local area network hardware and software, including servers, peripherals, network nodes, terminals, and wiring; as well as install and configure software and hardware connected to the network server and workstations.
  • Administer and supervise the day-to-day operations and support of network infrastructure to ensure reliable and effective performance.
  • Upgrade and update anti-virus software on server and workstations. Recommend security procedures to remote offices.
  • Communicate and coordinate network schedule, backups, and downtime to users.
  • Analyze system failures to identify the nature and source of failure, take corrective action.
  • Perform all network administrative tasks including printer management, tape backup, file recovery, setting up new user accounts, assign access rights and performing various network maintenance tasks.
  • Interface with networking vendors/consultants to resolve problems.
  • Coordinates third-party maintenance for network hardware, software, and telecommunications services.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts.

Help Desk and Training:

  • Respond to requests for assistance from all domestic users and regional office managers experiencing problems with hardware, software, networking, and other computer-related technologies.
  • Develop and coordinate in-house user training sessions.
  • Provide orientation to new employees and interns on general office procedures and technology.

Software/Hardware Support:

  • Maintain and update inventory database for software, hardware and peripherals. Complete Registration warranty for all new equipment.

  • Check-out and setup laptop and presentation equipment.

  • Assign and account for laptops, projectors, and equipment.

    Procurement:

  • Responsible for the ordering, shipping, and receiving of all software and hardware for HQ.

  • Purchase hardware and software for regional managers and remote offices.

  • Research grants and in-kind donations for computer related accessories and software

Office Administration:

  • Assist Administration Director with developing policies and procedures for daily computer operations; communicating policies to staff; assist in creating and maintaining policies and procedures manual for computer use

  • Assist Administration Director with general office maintenance including inventory, equipment maintenance, and office moves

  • Manager the PBX and voicemail telecommunications support such as adding new users to the system.

    General:

  • Keeps abreast of current technology.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years experience in network administration, or the equivalent

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills

  • Experience with all Windows server software and applications, Exchange server, Instagate firewall as well as Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong technical background, the ability to grasp new concepts, skills and adapt to dynamic changes in the computer information technology fields. Ability to communicate in lay terms with non-technical staff.

  • Willingness to learn new software including database management programs

  • Must possess the initiative to keep a busy office running smoothly and be responsive to diverse staff and organizational needs with minimal supervision.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
