350.org is looking for someone to lead digital media work on climate change in the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia region

350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world.

About the Digital Communications Coordinator

We position can be performed from Kyiv, Moscow, St-Petersburg, or Minsk. The location can be remote for the ideal candidate.

The Digital Communications campaigner will work with the regional 350.org team to form the campaign narrative and strategy. They will write blog posts, emails, and social media updates related to the campaign plan and major climate-related stories.

They will identify, develop, and implement digital campaigns across multiple platforms, collaborating with other 350 staff and partners on online-to-offline organizing and mobilization strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of, experience and dedication to the climate movement or other social problems. Commitment to building grassroots power as a means to effect change.
  • 3+ years of successful experience in traditional and digital communications, PR or journalism, preferably on topics related to climate change.
  • Strategic thinking and understanding of nonprofit and advocacy digital communications.
  • Excellent writing skills, ability and willingness to produce content in a variety of formats, including for social media, and for different audiences with short turnaround times.
  • Well established contacts with journalists and knowledge of media landscape in the region, including key publications and outlets for environmental and climate change related news, especially in Russia.
  • Proficiency in Russian and English (proven ability to write and talk freely in both languages)
  • Basic knowledge of visual design tools (Photoshop etc)
  • Ability to obtain a strong internet connection

Desired (but not required) skills and experiences

  • Basic front-end web development skills (HTML, CSS) and a good design eye, and experience using graphic design programs
  • Experience using some (or all) of the online platforms employed by the digital team, including Action Kit, Action Network, WordPress, and Control Shift Labs
  • Proficiency in maintaining spreadsheets and databases,
  • Comfort working remotely with colleagues in multiple time-zones via skype, conference calls, etc.
  • Comfort with email communication as a primary means of communicating.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and regularly generate news hooks and campaign ideas, work both independently and in teams, to be highly responsive and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.
  • Knowledge of other regional languages
  • Understanding of the local realities of different countries in the region

Position Type: Part-time

Compensation: competitive compensation based on experience

Location: Flexible in the region; preferably Kyiv, Moscow, St-Petersburg, or Minsk
