IMA World Health is seeking a Nutrition Specialist for the anticipated USAID/Zambia Reducing Stunting and Improving Incomes through Integrated Agriculture, Nutrition, Health, Water and Sanitation solicitation. This five year, $45 million prospective activity is envisioned to be an integrated agriculture/value chain, health, nutrition, water and sanitation program aimed at reducing stunting in Eastern and Central Provinces. The activity will build on the current activities and lessons learned of nutrition and Feed the Future investments to date. In order to directly reduce stunting in children under two, the program will work at household, community and school levels to increase access to improved water and sanitation as well as promoting food and economic security. There will be a focus on behavior change at household level too. The activity will strengthen selected key value chains actors, including farmers, groups, and the private sector, while promoting farming as a business and strengthening agriculture-nutrition water linkages at all levels. The Nutrition Specialist will oversee the nutrition technical component of the program and report directly to the DCOP/Technical Director.
Duties:
- Supervise and support nutrition programming activities and technical aspects of this program.
- Ensure use of standardized protocols, policies and guidelines, as prescribed by USAID and the Zambian Ministry of Health and Ministry of Community Development Mother and Child Services.
- Ensure that all nutrition activities are consistent with established best practices.
- Ensure appropriate support to the field sites where the program is implemented through regular visits.
- Coordinate with the program implementation team to provide USAID, and all local stakeholders with programmatic updates.
- Review progress of program objectives and targets in collaboration with the program managers.
- Monitor evolving needs of the specific communities being targeted and adjust programmatic priorities as necessary.
- Review technical aspects of internal and external reporting prepared by programmatic staff.
- Provide ongoing training and further technical support to field coordinators and managers.
The position requires a competent and experienced person with the following attributes:
- A Master's degree in international development, agriculture/agronomy, environment, or related field of study.
- At least 7 years of professional experience.
- Understanding of global nutrition and child health policy and context.
- Established reputation in the field of nutrition and child health programming.
- Ability to train and build capacity of regional-level staff.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English.
