Organization: 350.org
Closing date: 31 Oct 2016

350.org is looking for a motivated and experienced individual who is passionate about movement building and organising – keen to support our Europe network with the resources and skills for big moments such as an upcoming global divestment mobilisation in 2017. This is a short-term role beginning at the start of November, until the end of April 2017.

About 350.org

350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world.

About the Europe Organiser

This is a temporary role to cover some key responsibilities while the Europe Trainings Coordinator and Regional Organiser is on leave.

This role will involve:

  • Ensuring local groups have the necessary resources, materials and access to skills-building to organise successful actions as part of a global divestment mobilisation moment in 2017. This may include producing or adapting guides (e.g. action guides), developing training resources and organising online web workshops.
  • Responding and offering light support to local groups in their climate organising in the countries where we do not have staff members.
  • Overseeing and supporting staff members and organisers carrying out key trainings, workshops and meetings related to our core work.
  • Co-managing regional movement building budget with the Europe Team Leader.
  • Managing relationships with training partners and allies, where appropriate.
  • A need to be flexible to rising opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of campaigning and/or organising experience, in a grassroots setting or in an NGO or equivalent.
  • Network support skills for groups in Europe - an ability to work with multiple groups, who have a diverse range of skills and diverse range of cultures.
  • Experience in compiling activist resources

Desired (but not required) skills and experiences

  • Budget management skills
  • Experience hosting web workshops
  • Experience designing, developing and delivering trainings and supporting others to do so
  • Experience of connecting and working in Europe-wide networks
  • Experience of working with frontline communities (groups immediately impacted by climate impacts or extractivism projects)
  • Additional European languages as well as English

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, able to contribute to wider team work beyond their specific role and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others.

Position Type: Part-time, 3-4 days a week (negotiable).

Application Deadline: This job is open until filled, or the hiring manager determines that they can no longer accept applications.

Start Date: November 7, 2016 (flexible).

Compensation: Competitive compensation based on experience.

Location: This role can be based remotely from anywhere within European time-zones, though there is a preference for the role to be based in a location where there are other staff members, in order to have team support (including Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Stockholm, London). Some travel will be necessary, particularly for a handover with the Europe Trainings Coordinator and Regional Organiser.

350.org strives to be an inclusive and collaborative group of people who bring a variety of approaches to the work we do. We’re committed to the principles of justice, and we try to build a workplace where everyone is treated fairly and enjoys working together. We value new perspectives, ideas of all sorts, and different ways of working. Diverse perspectives and experiences improve the way 350.org carries out its work – including what we decide to work on and how creatively/effectively we do that. We do our best to make staff positions accessible to all potential team members, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation or identity. We also strive to include team members in communities most impacted by climate change or impacted by other kinds of environmental, social, and economic injustice.

If you have suggestions for us on how to do this better, we really value your input and strongly encourage you to write to us atjobs@350.orgwith the subject line ‘Hiring Feedback’.
