350.org is looking for a creative social change agent who knows how to create mass mobilisation moments and crises that bring new people in to the climate movement and result in new opportunities for breakthroughs on climate, thrives on working in multi-cultural teams and has a flair for getting groups to align on new ideas and take risks.
About 350.org
350.org is building a global climate movement. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are coordinated by a global network active in over 188 countries. The number 350 means climate safety: to preserve a livable planet, scientists tell us we must reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere from its current level of 400 parts per million to below 350 ppm.
We believe that a global grassroots movement can hold our leaders accountable to the realities of science and the principles of justice. That movement is rising from the bottom up all over the world, and is uniting to create the solutions that will ensure a better future for all. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyse transformation around the world.
About the Mobilisation Strategist
The Disruptive Strategist will be responsible for developing ability to create disruptive moments and creative interventions to create new opportunities for step change on climate. This role is a mix of coming up with creative ideas yourself, as well as facilitating, training, and coordinating our teams to think and act in this direction. Other key responsibilities include first class management to help people implement new ideas in diverse contexts; high level project-management and being an integral member of 350.org’s senior programme team. As we’re expanding our work into global south / developing regions, this role will significantly benefit from someone with strong experience working in such contexts.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced mobiliser and group leader with limitless creativity and an accomplished manager of both projects and people. We will be looking for someone with demonstrated experience in creating disruptive mass mobilisation moments to bring in new people to the movement and create a crisis that enables campaigns to reach their goals more quickly.Experience with collaborative group processes, and of working across a variety of cultures, will be distinct advantages.
Essential skills and attributes include
- Established track record of successful organising and mobilisation design and implementation, both locally and internationally, particularly in global south / developing country contexts
- Strong leadership ability, yet also a team player
- Adept at thinking outside of the box and considered by others to be creative
- Able to translate concept into implementation nimbly
- Strong training and coaching skills
- An excellent manager of diverse international teams
- First class project management skills, across international and multidisciplinary teams
- Culturally intelligent - truly interested in learning about different regions and able to articulate issues in a manner that bring people together to make progress
- Can juggle multiple responsibilities across various teams and can nimbly respond to unexpected opportunities
- Able to travel internationally
Desired (but not required) skills and experiences
- Multilingual
Experience with the following:
digital campaigning
value-based audience analysis and approach
non-violent direct action and civil disobedience
